Outline of the Job

The job is about generating news and feature copy for the website and as it develops, to contribute to the sister sites covering Battle and Bexhill. The role will cover not just news gathering and the writing of news stories and choosing appropriate images and photographs it will l also include layout of on the existing website pages as well as creating new pages and sections. Training will also be given in some of the basics of managing the ‘back end’ of the website.
There will be a need to develop relationships with local politicians and business leaders, winning their trust and developing the confidence to interview these people and to ask ‘difficult’ questions.
There will also be a need to develop a network of contacts, people who have good news stories to share. In addition to working in words and pictures for the website there will also be the chance to create podcasts for the Soundcloud based podcast channel and video material for our YouTube channel

Key Skills

Good English skills are key, minimum B at GCSE with a strong A level being seen as a bonus. An inquisitive mind and someone not afraid to ask questions, self confident but not ‘cocky’.
Good grasp of IT will be a positive attribute as would be an understanding of the application of social media to build and create and an audience.
